You are our key to an evidence-led, humanist future in this country!
I believe in the power of a grassroots, volunteer based movement. Although our candidates lead the way with ideas and presence, it's only with your help as volunteers that we gain any traction or visibility. It's you volunteers that collectively put in far more to our movement than any of our candidates can alone. It's from you as volunteers that we gain democratic legitimacy.
We knew going in that our voice would be a small one in the crowded shouting of Australian politics. And our nationwide results reflect that. But each of you that adds your strength to it makes us a little bit more visible, a little bit more vibrant. Our goal in the medium term has to be to enable and encourage all of you to come into your own. And our movement grows best by scaling at the edges so I encourage each of you to discuss your experiences, and bring your friends next time.
In the coming months we will turn to state, local, and non-electoral campaigns. The biggest challenges that lie before us are Victoria and South Australia. If you aren't in those states I would still encourage you to get involved. Our tools and methodology for hybrid campaigning were made out of necessity but also out of familiarity with technology. You can absolutely make groundbreaking contributions to far off campaigns and build up your own experience while doing so.
In the short term, I encourage everyone to engage in rest and reflection. There is one final task (for non-candidates anyway) which is to attend the debrief this Saturday at 7pm AEST. A learning movement is a growing movement. And by collecting our learning, we give ourselves the best chances at averting the crises that we face as a species in the coming century.
